This is quite important: The emulator is far from perfect - many (most) roms don't currently boot, and there are all sorts of crashes, graphical glitches and performance issues. There's no sound or savegame support either This should really be treated as a teaser of what's possible in the future. Hopefully if I have enough time and motivation I'll be able to make a lot of headway with these problems.
Despite all that, the emulator is showing some great signs of progress. Super Mario 64 is looking pretty good as you can see from the screenshots here: http://sourceforge.net/project/scree...group_id=57977.

The next big tasks for me to tackle are to fix various crashes (i.e. many roms boot but then bug out after a few seconds) and improve performance (i.e. Mario currently only runs at around 20-25% of full speed.
Anyway, the source and binaries are released on sourceforge at the following link http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ease_id=414040
Regards,
StrmnNrmn |
i ran this on my 1.5 and works fine. super mario is a bit slow but is a good start. this wont work on anything higher because it uses kernel mode.
read the read me on this so you do every thing right.

Portable Paint Released!!!
Posted by Admin @ Mon May 01, 2006 11:05 am
natan333 has just released his updated version of PortablePaint. It's a homebrew program wherein you can draw stuff, and then save it by taking a screenshot.

The new version contains more colors, and a few bugfixes.
Here's an excerpt from his forum post:
Hold R trigger to pop up the colors
Select a color and press square button while holding R trigger to change drawing color
If you press circle while selecting a color, the screen will change color
Press start while drawing to clear the screen
Press select to reset the program
To take screenshot press L trigger and Triangle
It will save to the root of your memory stick
It's specially made for 2.0 and above PSPs. If you want to run it on 1.5, copy everything inside the folder except for Eboot.PBP and start it using Lowser. If you're using it on 2.0 or above, you only need to download the first file. The second one is for people who're using it on 1.5 PSPs.

PSPectrum vo.2 released!!!
Posted by Admin @ Mon May 01, 2006 11:02 am
Here's something for all you veteran Spectrum fans: Hexdump has released version 0.2 of his Spectrum Z80 emulator for the PSP, called PSPectrum. PSPectrum allows you to play all your favourite Spectrum games on your PSP. Here's what Hexdump said:

"PSPectrum is a Spectrum emulator for the PSP. It is far from perfect but it runs almost 90% of 48k/128k games and also has sound (only 48k by now). About 4 months of developing has been needed to bring this emulator to the PSP. I could have chosen to port one of the well known Speccy/Z80 emulators for PC, but I preferred to start it from scratch because is something I always wanted to do."
This version has many features, including:
* 3 Different screen sizes with filter, everything working in hardware mode.
* Fully re-mapable PSP buttons
* Screenshot support (1 per game).
* ZIP support.
* Almost perfect 48k Sound
* New fast Blend rendering for keyboards, which doesn´t affect frame rate
* GUI code rewritten to allow pressable options. Now pages are scrollable, and has been added a new look and feel.
* Possibility to save different configurations for every game.
The emulator currently supports the .Z80 and .SNA formats.PSPectrum comes formatted for 1.5, and has not been tested on 2.0-2.6 using the eLoader.

Descent for PSP released!!!
Posted by Admin @ Mon May 01, 2006 10:48 am
MagiK has released Descent for the Playstation Portable. Descent is a futuristic arcade style flight game. Originally developed by Parallax Software, Descent features 3D gameplay in underground corridors and tight mine shafts. Those who are claustrophobic need not apply. Your specially designed vehicle which has quite good maneuverability I might add, is equipped with guns and missiles and you are able to pick up and upgrade new weapons to add to your arsenal. While many played this game heavily on the PC there have been releases on the Playstation, Sega Saturn and Macintosh platforms as well.
While this release is "not 100% stable and may still contain zillions of bugs." Gamers from our forums report that they haven't seen any bugs or glitches yet. For more information view the psp-readme.txt file that is included in the download. Also note that "ad-hoc play will most likely not work in this release, since I haven't got a chance to test it yet, but infrastructure mode should work just fine. Please remember that you need updated PIG and HOG files."

Thanks to Chronomaster5042 for the heads up!

New monkey 64 screenshots apearing!
Posted by Admin @ Sat Apr 29, 2006 12:04 pm
PSMonkey is still working and getting tons of progress on Monkey 64 (a Nintendo 64 emulator) for the PSP. He has just provided some additional screenshots of new N64 games being emulated via his latest build of Monkey 64. From the once unrecognizable, garbled screenshots of the past, we now are getting closer and closer to seeing more accurate emulation, with better graphics. Outstanding work PSMonkey, the entire community is proud of your developments, keep at it!
Screenshots of Mario Kart 64 and Star Fox 64:

Here's what PSMonkey has to say:
"The bug was Eeprom. While mario & waverace still dont work, I think ths more has to do with emulation bugs (made a few trying to get mario working). All 3 roms (which required 4k eeprom) now progress.
Starfox does get alot farter then this, it's just the map screen is very hard to figure out (hle bugs). I probably could get all the way ingame but did not have the time to check it out. $n!pR will do that for me in a big and come back with the results later."
PSmonkey has been working so hard for us psp'ers so please visit his site, and find out more about monkey 64 HERE

UMD DAX Dumper Beta Released!
Posted by Admin @ Fri Apr 28, 2006 3:08 pm
Dark_AleX has just released a new homebrew application for the PSP, which allows you to create a backup/dump of a UMD inserted in your PSP to your memory stick, or directly to your PC via USB (using PSPLINK) in DAX, GZIP, or ISO format. Great if you want to get some extra speed in-game by running your legally bought UMD through memory stick, or just want to backup a copy for personal use, in case your UMD gets damaged. Keep up the good work, Dark_AleX!

Features in UMD Dax Dumper Beta include:
- Dump to: selects the destination directory, which can be ms0:/ISO, ms0:/UMD, host0:/ISO, for PSPLINK usage.
- Format: DAX, ISO or GZIP (GZIP format is not supported by any loader, you'll have to decompress the GZIP and recompress later).
- Compression level: selects the compression level for DAX or GZIP format. 9 is better but slower, 1 is faster but worse, 6 is the compromise between speed and compression.
- Split size: select the size of each part, or 'no split' if you want to dump the full UMD to a single archived file.

Fajita FAQ on new firmware
Posted by nathan151 @ Wed Apr 26, 2006 11:11 am
Now that firmware 2.70 has been released by Sony, many are confused on the status of the PSPs homebrew scene, and where we currently are at with the new firmware. Fanjita, praised developer of the GTA exploit and eLoader, has just commented on all this, and should hopefully clear up any confusions you all had about 2.70 firmware.
Here's the FAQ:
| Quote: | Homebrew does not work on v2.7. The GTA exploit is thoroughly patched, and the TIFF exploit is still patched. If you like homebrew, DO NOT UPGRADE.
We have no idea when homebrew will be available on v2.7. We need a whole new exploit, which could take some time. In our opinion (shared with EdisonCarter) there is no future for the GTA exploit on v2.7.
LocoRoco is an encrypted, signed EBOOT. The only way to run homebrew in the same way is to get Sony's encryption key and sign the homebrew. That's not going to be possible in our lifetime.
There could well be an exploit to be found in all the new function, e.g. flash player, AAC support, etc. We're not actively working on one.
There might be an exploit to be found in another game. We're not actively working on one.
There's no truth in the rumour that v2.7 has made us angry, and that we're going to work on an ISO loader as revenge.
The LocoRoco demo REQUIRES v2.70, even if you hack the PARAM.SFO in the EBOOT. It's pretty cool, but there's homebrew that's cooler.
Finally, he states: "Once again, the most important point: If you don't think that slow support for an old version of Macromedia Flash, and support for the very latest games, is worth trading for homebrew for the next few months - then DO NOT UPGRADE." |

PSIX V 1.10
Posted by Southparkmaniac @ Wed Apr 26, 2006 1:44 am
Fluff has been busy with updating PSIX and what a wonderful job he/she has done of it. The update has fixed an amazing amount of bugs, and now the version is much stable then previous releases. PSIX incase many of you don't know is an alternative for 1.0, 1.5 users like my self to change the xmb into this OS.

New features/fixes in v1.10 include:
- Icon support refined.
- Audio no longer crackles on tabchange.
- Audio vizualisation completed and added.
- File manager working.
- New OSK implimented (Psikey) - buggy at the moment with long filenames.
- Image viewer improved and less prone to crashing, set as wallpaper and remove wallpaper fully functional.
- Refined GUI engine, for faster, smoother animations and transitions (public build specific).
- Filesize limitation of music changed to 7MB, unlimited size is still being worked on and is only available on BETA builds.
- OSK not functional until we work out the little bug, but you can still play with it.
